Spent five fun-filled hours at the retinal specialist’s office today with my 91 year-old mother while she was examined and treated for “wet” macular degeneration. Oy…
Yes, if caught soon enough. With my mother, it may or may not improve her vision because of the time factor. They use a series of injections directly into the eyeball that stops the development of leaky blood vessels and can actually help restore vision. This has been used for about five years now. Before, it was a laser treatment that stopped the growth of vessels but didn’t restore any lost vision. Fingers crossed!
It can be so painful for the caregiver (not to say hugely aggravating) to take an aging parent to the doctor. It’s like taking a child; they need the medical interventions, but you just hate it that the processes and procedures are difficult for them.
So ‘wet’ is the kind that can be treated?
