The Komen Clinker

I think this ecard from The New York Times says it all for me about playing politics with women’s lives:

  1. I agree with Laurie, and have signed the petition below:

Thanks for signing my petition, “Stop Funding For Susan G. Komen. Redirect Funding To Other Breast Cancer Organizations..”

Winning this campaign is now in your hands. We need to reach out to as many friends as we can to grow this campaign and win.

    Thanks for your support,

    William

Take the next step: Ask your friends to sign
    SHARE THIS PETITION

Don’t just be a signer — be an organizer. Turn your signature into hundreds more by asking your friends to sign. Then they’ll ask their friends. That’s how we win.

  3. Komen’s politics are now totally outed and their commitment to women’s breast health turns out to be a bit one-sided, so to speak. I’m signing that petition.

  4. Perfect! A friend says that from now on, pulling a two-day bender and then trying to get back into good graces will be called, “pulling a Komen.” I don’t know about everybody else, but they’ve certainly been crossed off my list.

  5. This is a comment I read in ‘ImmoralMinority’ from Gryphen
and regarding the fact they had supposedly apologized (?):

“I never felt Komen foundation was clean.

“They don’t support stem cell research which would of course help find a cure.
Why would they want a cure? It wouldn’t be good for their lifestyle.

ONLY 20% OF THEIR PROCEEDS GO TO RESEARCH!!

“A NON-PROFIT THAT PROFITS IS BS!!”

Remember, Remember, The Sixth of December!!!
    Landslide Omaba!!! Landslide Democratic!!!

  6. Here is an excerpt from an Update at Gryphen’s Site:
    ▼ ▼
” . . . Pushed on whether this means the new announcement wasn’t really a reversal, Raffaelli pushed back, arguing that Komen, in response to all the criticism, had removed politics from the grant-making process. “Is it really unclear that we’re changing the policy to address criticism?” he said.

“So Nancy Brinker is safe, as I assume Karen Handel is as well, and there is no definitive promise to continue the foundation’s relationship with PP.

“I think it is the appropriate time to say f**k the Komen Foundation, and, as so many have already suggested, to send our money directly to Planned Parenthood.”
