Donald Trump on Tuesday doubled-down on his warning that the general election will be rigged against him, saying that recent court decisions will allow voters to cast multiple ballots.
During an interview on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” Trump said that recent decisions striking down voter identification laws will lead to widespread voter fraud.
“The whole thing with voter ID identification I think is really – I mean people are going to walk in, they are going to vote 10 times maybe,” Trump said, according to a transcript of the interview set to air on Tuesday night. “Who knows? They are going to vote 10 times. I am very concerned and I hope the Republicans are going to be very watchful and I hope the authorities are going to be very watchful.”
“Because I want to tell you – I believe it’s going to, just like Bernie Sanders. ‘I said it was rigged,’ well it’s rigged here too believe me,” he continued. “So I just hope the Republicans are going to be very watchful.”
The voter ID law here in Texas was recently knocked down. The thing is, there is no voter fraud in Texas. That law was meant for the sole purpose of disenfranchising Democratic voters at the polls.
And as to Trump’s declaration that people will “vote 10 times,” that is patently false and just shows how much he actually knows, or doesn’t know, about the whole voting process.
When we go to vote in our county for any election, not just a presidential one, we have to show the postcard we receive in the mail that has our voter registration information on it. The volunteers (Repubs and Dems) look our names up in their big ol’ official voter books and make sure the postcard and the book’s information match. They have another book that we have to sign showing we voted that day. Also, our postcard (which you will remember, we had to show before we could do anything else) is stamped with a big red “VOTED” for that election.
If we or anyone else who might have our cards tried to vote again, they wouldn’t get very far.
They would be turned away.
It’s well known that Donald Trump’s own children didn’t even bother to register to vote in the primaries this year. I wonder if Donald himself has much experience with voting prior to his run for the presidency. He probably wasn’t interested until now because it wasn’t about him.
A total lack of knowledge about the process would fit right in with his other deficiencies when it comes to international relations (Brexit, Putin, Ukraine), women’s issues (“I think if Ivanka was being sexually harassed she should find another career”) and all the myriad other things he has zero intellectual curiosity about.
