We’ve Been Euchred Yet Again by Pollsters and Pundits

eu·chre

/ˈyo͞okər/

INFORMALNORTH AMERICAN
deceive, outwit, or cheat (someone).

adjective Australian Informal. utterly done in or at the end of one’s tether; exhausted.

Euchre is a card game for four players that is played in tricks, or rounds, with a deck of 32 cards. Etymologists aren’t sure where we got the name for the game, though they do know that it first appeared in English in the mid-19th century. The first sense of the verb euchre arose from an action that takes place during the game: a player is euchred when an opponent blocks him or her from winning three or more tricks after making trump. Deception can often be key to a winning strategy, and sure enough it took almost no time at all for euchre to develop a sense meaning “cheat” or “trick.”

If y’all remember what I wrote not too long ago here you know I recounted how exhausted I was from the last four years of the talking yam and how I thought I’d learned my lesson about hanging on the every word of the pundits and pollsters after the 2016 debacle.

Well, I was wrong.

I fell for it again, most recently in listening to James Carville the other night on MSNBC saying the election will be all over by 10:30 pm and there will be a Biden sweep. Ditto with Charlie Cook on the same program (The Eleventh Hour with Brian Williams).

As it turns out, these people don’t know shit from Shineola, as they say.

I got my hopes up because of them and once again I’ve been euchred.

Bigly.

How Did He Not Know This? I’m a 73 year-old Grandma and I Knew it.

From CNN:

White House pandemic adviser Dr. Scott Atlas gave an extensive interview to RT, the Kremlin-controlled state media network in which he asserted coronavirus lockdowns “are killing people,” attacked public health experts and dismissed models predicting hundreds of thousands more pandemic deaths in the US.

Atlas gave the interview via satellite from the White House grounds, according to the footage. He said the pandemic is improving in the US, even as daily case counts and death counts hit new records for the pandemic as a whole.

Atlas, who is a radiologist and who has no expertise in infectious diseases or epidemiology, also dismissed forecasts from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine that forecasts 399,000 coronavirus deaths in the US by Feb. 1 under current conditions.

Atlas tweeted an apology Sunday.

“I recently did an interview with RT and was unaware they are a registered foreign agent. I regret doing the interview and apologize for allowing myself to be taken advantage of. I especially apologize to the national security community who is working hard to defend us,” Atlas said in the tweet.

It’s All About Money Because This Is How He Sees the World

“Our doctors get more money if someone dies from COVID. You know that, right? I mean, our doctors are very smart people.”
— Trump

When I heard him say this at a wankfest rally yesterday, it just made my blood boil even more than usual. And the people robotically nodding along behind him in the bleachers made this latest claim more egregious than just about anything he’s said so far because they apparently believe any falsehood that flies out of his mouth.

This is emblematic of Trump’s world view: there is no morality or empathy. Everything is transactional. Stiff your contractors. Walk away from bankruptcies and leave your investors holding the bag. Defraud people of their life savings by tricking them into believing you will share your “secret” to gaining wealth in real estate. Soldiers who’ve died in service to their country are suckers and losers. What was in it for them? If there was no monetary gain, then it was all in vain.

Trump is the master of projection. Things he accuses other people of doing, like claiming a person died of COVID so a doctor can add an additional cost to the bill, are the very things he himself would have no problem doing if he were in the same situation. God forbid.

Last night on MSNBC there was an emergency room doctor who had served as a medic in Afghanistan and Iraq and now sees an influx of COVID patients in his hospital. He said this particular claim of Trump’s “pissed him off” the most because he knows doctors are not like that and many of them have died trying to take care of patients during this horrible pandemic.

What does it take for people who think Trump is the Second Coming to realize what a waste of skin this horrible man is? I used to think our country was better than this. But, sadly, I guess I was mistaken.

For the Rest of You People Though, Don’t Let It Dominate Your Life

Melania Trump is canceling her first campaign appearance in months because she is not feeling well as she continues to recover from Covid-19.

She had been set to join President Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night, but she has decided not to go.

“Mrs. Trump continues to feel better every day following her recovery from Covid-19, but with a lingering cough, and out of an abundance of caution, she will not be traveling today,” said Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s chief of staff.

Trump in an essay earlier last week said her symptoms of Covid-19, “hit me all at once and it seemed to be a roller coaster.” She described having body aches, a cough, headaches and feeling extreme fatigue.

No, Lara. It’s OUR Department of Justice

From Politico:

At the president’s rally Saturday in Muskegon, Mich., after he demanded that Whitmer loosen her state’s coronavirus-related restrictions, attendees erupted into chants of “lock her up.”

The president did not attempt to dissuade the crowd, instead saying: “Lock them all up.”

Lara Trump sought to justify the calls from the president and his supporters Sunday, saying that “people are very frustrated” with Whitmer in Michigan and that “you’re hearing people’s frustration play out there at the Trump rally.”

She also said the president’s attack on Whitmer “has nothing to do with” her attempted kidnapping, and noted that “it was the president’s Department of Justice that actually thwarted” the plot against the governor.

Whitmer responded to Trump’s rally remarks in a tweet Saturday evening, writing that his rhetoric “has put me, my family, and other government officials’ lives in danger while we try to save the lives of our fellow Americans. It needs to stop.”

The president has repeatedly assailed Whitmer’s handling of the coronavirus throughout the pandemic, even encouraging his supporters to “LIBERATE” Michigan in April.

And Another One Bites the Dust–Good Luck, Amy!

From the Washington Post:

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) announced that he, too, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The senator was at the White House on Saturday for Trump’s Rose Garden event announcing Judge Amy Coney Barrett as his Supreme Court nominee where there was virtually no one wearing masks and no social distancing.

In a statement, Lee said he tested negative at the White House ahead of that event but began experiencing allergy-like symptoms Thursday. He got tested again, and it came back positive.

Lee, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, met with Barrett on Tuesday on Capitol Hill, and the two were photographed together not wearing masks. Lee has also had close contact with the committee’s chairman, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.).
