Well Said, Sir.

Quote from the Dallas Chief of Police:

Asked how these events would change police reaction to future protests, the chief reiterated that these were “peaceful protests until these events happened” that Dallas was not going to militarize its police operations. And they were not going to “let cowards change our democracy” by affecting the right to protest.

As the mother-in-law of a Texas peace officer, the shootings in Dallas horrified me.

About a year ago a fellow officer of my son-in-law was shot during a routine traffic stop. Fortunately, he survived. These five men will not be coming home to their families. Every day those families have lived with the knowledge there was the very real possibility of something like this happening. And yet these officers get up and go to work to protect us.

I have great sympathy, too, for the Black Lives Matter folks. They face dangers that white people can’t begin to imagine. Merely driving while black puts many of them at risk.

What is the answer? I wish I knew. But more guns and inflamed rhetoric like Rep. Joe Walsh’s execrable tweet about coming for Obama and those saying Hillary Clinton and “the liberals” are to blame only create more hatred.

Truly a sad day for America.policeman

Go Ahead. Ask “the Gays.”

From The Hill:

Donald Trump, who has in recent days called himself the best presidential candidate for the gay community, re-tweeted a photo of himself standing next to anti-gay Pastor Robert Jeffress Friday.

Jeffress, who is known for his anti-LGBT sentiments and controversial views on the Mormon faith, tweeted the photo Friday after meeting at Trump’s rally in Dallas.

Following the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando last weekend, Trump has said the gay community should support him over rival Hillary Clinton.

“The LGBT community, the gay community, the lesbian community — they are so much in favor of what I’ve been saying over the last three or four days,” Trump said Thursday.

“Ask the gays what they think and what they do, in, not only Saudi Arabia, but many of these countries, and then you tell me – who’s your friend, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?”

But his newest friend, Jeffress, has previously linked homosexuality and pedophilia and compared being gay to bestiality.

In February 2015, he was quoted saying the gay rights movement would “pave the way for that future world dictator, the Antichrist.”

Jeffress has also called the Mormon religion a “cult.” When introducing then-GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry in 2011, he said Christians shouldn’t vote for Mitt Romney because “he’s a Mormon, therefore not a real Christian.”

“Historically, evangelical Christianity has never embraced Mormonism as a branch of Christianity. Mormonism has always been treated as a cult,” he said.

Wait…what?

From the brain of Rick Perry (you know, the guy who called Trump “a cancer on conservatism that must be clearly diagnosed, excised, and discarded”) in response to Hillary Clinton’s Trump Take-down speech today:

“Donald Trump understands what the American people are really tuned into today, and all of these attacks that we saw or we heard her talk about today — I think it’s just off the skin of the duck, off the back of the duck,” Perry said on Fox News.

“This is just water that’s flowing out of her that’s not having any impact.”

Such a great mind and profound thinker.

At least he didn’t say “flowing out of her whatever.”

Probably thought it, though.

Ted Cruz, Weasel in Chief

From Politico:

“Ted Cruz was put on the defensive for his proposal to patrol Muslim neighborhoods as he went on a media blitz Wednesday morning.

On CBS “This Morning” Tuesday, Cruz again cited the initiative that de Blasio ended. But host Norah O’Donnell pushed back.

“This raises a lot of civil liberty concerns. Let me ask you, how many Muslims are in America?” O’Donnell asked.

“I don’t know the number off the top of my head,” Cruz responded.

“So you’re saying that law enforcement should survey the number of Muslims, and you don’t know how many Muslims are in America? There are 3 million Muslims in America. Law enforcement is overwhelmed,” O’Donnell said.  “We have a chief of police, one of the most respected chiefs of police who was here earlier and said there are no Muslim neighborhoods. It’s not like Europe, it doesn’t exist that way. It’s impractical what you’re suggesting. Also, it doesn’t suggest it would lead to anything. It’s more of a political point you’re making.”

Lock Up Your Textbooks, Here Comes Mary Lou

From The Daily Kos–written by Hunter:

“Texas Republicans’ drive to find the stupidest people in the state and elect them to office seems, if anything, to be picking up steam.

[Republican Mary Lou Bruner] received 48 percent of the vote in a three-person GOP primary for a seat on the Texas State Board of Education this Tuesday, falling just short of the 50 percent needed to claim victory. She will compete in a May runoff election against Keven Ellis, a chiropractor and city school board president who earned 31 percent of the vote.

Some things that Mary Lou Bruner has stated she believes: Obama used to be a gay prostitute. Climate change is a hoax promoted by the communists and, specifically, by Karl Marx himself. Slavery is not the reason for the American Civil War, but we have been led to think that through a conspiracy by historians who “waited until all of the people who were alive during the Civil War and the Restoration died of old age.” School shootings started only after “the schools started teaching evolution.” That there may have been dinosaurs on Noah’s ark, and the reason there are no dinosaurs now is that Noah only brought baby dinosaurs that starved to death when he let them loose back on land.

Presuming that Texas Republicans do not find their long-lost sense of shame between now and this May—and evidence that they will is sparse—she is likely to become one of the most powerful people in America when it comes to content of the textbooks Texas children, and therefore children in quite a few other states besides, find on their desks in coming years.

An openly raving Damn Lunatic. It may be time to consider walling the state of Texas off. I am not ruling out an airlift to rescue the remaining sane people.”

Me first.

Lies and the Lying Liar Who Tells Them

From professional weasel, Ted Cruz:

“We are one justice away from the Supreme Court ordering ten commandments monuments taken down at courthouses and city halls throughout this country,” he said.

“We are not far away from them ordering the chisels to come out to take off the crosses and the Stars of Davids on the tombstones of our fallen soldiers.”

He also said a liberal majority of justices would order “veterans’ memorials to be torn down over this country,” give up America’s national “sovereignty to the United Nations and the World Court,” and nix the Second Amendment right to bear arms, as well as push a liberal agenda on abortion.

“We are one justice away from the Supreme Court striking down every restriction on abortion and mandating unlimited abortion-on-demand up until the moment of birth, partial birth with taxpayer funding and no notification,” Cruz said.

“This issue is huge in the next election.”
